Blauwwind is a consortium consisting of five different companies – Partners Group, Shell, Eneco, DGE and Van Oord – that is working on the construction of the Borssele III & IV offshore wind farm.

What will transport look like in 2040

Offshore wind farm Borssele III & IV will be located about 55 kilometers from the Port of Vlissingen. The wind farm will be connected to the national electricity grid via the TenneT Borssele Beta offshore substation.

Renewable energy

The total surface of the wind farm is 146 km2 and there will be 77 turbines that will produce enough power to provide around 825,000 Dutch households with renewable electricity (or can decarbonize about 2.3% of the total Dutch electricity demand, ref. CBS, 2016).

MHI Vestas offshore wind logo

MHI Vestas

MHI Vestas is the supplier of 77 wind turbines and will design, supply, install, commission and maintain the V164-9.5 turbines. These include the nacelles, hubs, blades, towers, davit cranes, navigational aids and the SCADA system to operate the wind farm.


Van Oord logo

Van Oord

Van Oord will execute the Balance of Plant works for the project, consisting of the design, engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the 77 foundations, inter array cables (incl. layout). Van Oord is also responsible for the installation of turbines and scour protection. For this project Van Oord will deploy amongst others its offshore installation vessel Aeolus, and cable-laying vessel Nexus.
